I liked Mesmerizer and don't mind Miku/Teto duets for the most part but i do think they're getting repetitive recently. It's like everybody is trying to make their own Mesmerizer. Odochina was good though.

The Western side of the vocaloid finally got out of the GHOST copycat phase while the Japanese side is now stuck in its 32ki copycat phase.

Some of my all time favourite songs have been duets so I'm pretty happy! It'd be lovely if something like Cendrillion or Paper Plane came out using Miku and Teto though, I'm not the biggest fan of Mesmerizer

i wouldn't call them "slop", they're well produced most of the time, but they are absolutely using miku/teto for the views because a lot of these songs could easily use gumi, IA, lily, iroha or really any vocaloids aside from miku and teto but since they're not popular they always end up using the same two.

I'd kill for some new Lily stuff, or even RedCUL, but at this point i'm just accepting that unless i make songs with them no one else is going to

I noticed a minority on the other side of the fandom on the blue bird website is also sick of it too. The majority of people will ride that MikuTeto meat til its dry and complain about people who want any 'loid other than Miku to succeed (another reason to hate the western fandom ggs) but at least it's not just us and /jp/ that can't see the colors red and blue together.

Tbh I get why people are bothered by this part. I'm just being cranky about stuff like picrel implying that a few trending songs are the only things coming out, period. Most of what gets big is completely different from what the average artist is making.

I feel bad for 32ki because 32ki is a fantastic producer who has made several fantastic songs, yet people only give Mesmerizer the time of day

I was thinking about this the other day and yeah, there are a lot of vocaloid songs cut from the same cloth. The most offensive part to me is the overwhelming focus on the hook. You can have a great hook, but if the rest of the song doesn’t support it, you don’t have an emotional song at all. And honestly the hook isn’t even good on some of these songs.
At the same time, we’ve seen waves of highly trendy vocaloid songs before. 2012 felt this way. Everyone wanted to be Jin and have a cast of OCs with a story. Half the producers sounded like Suzumu. So I think it might just be a natural consequence of boom periods that derivative work is made.
I would call the “Mesmerizer-like” or “current Mikuteto” body of work a subgenre at this point. Whether it stays or goes in a few years, who knows.

The only series outside kagepro I cared for was Shuuen no Shiori or the bookmark of demise project by 150-P. Everyone has heard kemu, but I’d put his stuff in that bucket too - you can tell he wrote Life Reset Button and then decided hey wait, I should do this story stuff.
