Why do the Japanese get McDonald's ads with cute girls and Vocaloid promos while we get random ass celebrities no one cares about like J Balvin and Travis Scott

 No.709

Target audience, people here would probably call Tabemi “pedo fapperbait,” call the Vocaloid collabs “AIslop,”
have no idea what her ads are referencing when it comes to the Touhou and NND stuff and not care, and the people you listed do have lots of fans. Meanwhile in Japan no one knew who Travis was so it’d make zero sense to have a Travis meal there

I have no idea how McDonald's is perceived in Japan but in the west the target demographic used to be kids so it made sense to have fun promos and stuff. In the 90's millennials were still kids and in the 2000's they grew up so zoomers became their new target. But by the late 2010's both millennials and zoomers were already too "old" to appeal to, so now their target audience is mostly young adults and i guess gen alpha to some extent(?) (the playplaces have been replaced with tablets in some areas). So in the west they go with stuff that appeals to young adults like celebrity meals.

I'm too old for the happy meal but I do wish they would become the "kid friendly" brand they used to be, it would definitely make the collabs interesting again.
